Kelsey Woods

Sometimes Teacher

Kelsey grew up in Raleigh, where she began her career as a professional nanny and household manager. Most recently, she taught preschool at Boulder Journey School in Colorado.

Kelsey recently completed a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education from the University of Colorado Denver, where she engaged in close study of the Reggio Emilia approach as part of the Boulder Journey School Teacher Education Program. During the program, she attended a week-long study tour in Reggio Emilia, Italy, where she experienced the Reggio Emilia approach firsthand. This experience cemented Kelsey’s commitment to working with young children and clarified her vision for supporting children as they construct learning alongside their community.

Outside of work, Kelsey enjoys spending time with her partner, their three cats, and their Australian Shepherd puppy. Kelsey enjoys being outdoors and traveling; last year, she visited Machu Picchu (Peru)!

Kelsey is excited to be back in the Triangle area and looks forward to learning from the community of children, families, and educators at Wildflower Cottage.

Fun Fact:

Kelsey has 1,000 worms at home that help compost her food waste!

“Observe and listen to children because when they ask ‘why?’ they are not simply asking for the answer from you. They are requesting the courage to find a collection of possible answers. This attitude of the child means that the child is a real researcher.”
