Barbara Zimmerman
Sometimes Teacher
Barbara had a fantastic childhood in Person County, NC. Her favorite memories include wild blackberries, plentiful honeysuckle, hide-and-seek in cornfields, fishing in ponds, rock-jumping across the river, looking underneath rocks, sketching leaves, digging in clay, and making pies in her mud kitchen. She lived with her grandparents and often entertained her cousins. Those rich experiences inspired Barbara to pursue Early Childhood Education at Person Community College, NC Central University, and Durham Technical Community College. She has also enjoyed workshops through the Free Forest School, Durham Parks and Recreation, and on-site at West Point on the Eno.
Barbara has over three decades of experience with young children, including licensed classrooms and professional nanny positions. After doing her student teaching at Wildflower, she rediscovered the joy of creating, storytelling, and exploring with children in a close-knit community.
In her free time, Barbara treasures moments with her husband, her five children, her grandson, and her daughter’s husky. She tries to carve out time to sip coffee while reading good books… and she is still looking underneath rocks!
Fun Facts:
- Barbara’s favorite vegetables are Vidalia onions because they pair well with everything!
- Barbara will never grow tired of rereading Anne of Green Gables.
