Gunner Schlender

Gunner grew up in Brillion, Wisconsin, a small rural town near Green Bay.  Spending his childhood outside playing sports gave Gunner a lifelong love of movement and teamwork.  That same energy carries into his life today — he’s an avid runner, hiker, and all-around lover of being active outdoors. Gunner’s connections to nature and sports have stayed with him ever since, shaping his perspective on learning and childhood.

Gunner earned his degree in Health, Physical, and Adapted Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. He was drawn to Wildflower Cottage for its focus on the whole child, its individualized approach to learning, and its nature-based curriculum rooted in the Reggio Emilia philosophy.  The values at Wildflower feel like a natural extension of Gunner’s own educational experiences and childhood memories. 

Gunner has previous experience as an ABA therapist. What he enjoyed most about ABA was observing each child’s distinct developmental progress and playing a role in supporting their individualized goals. Gunner believes all children thrive when they are given space to explore, move, and connect with the world around them — both indoors and out. He also believes all children have the right to reach their full potential, regardless of ability level. Gunner enjoys helping children develop the skills they need for everyday life.

In his free time, Gunner enjoys coffee, running, thrifting, camping, photography, and cooking.

• Gunner has a cat named Ralph.
• Gunner shoots black-and-white film with his grandma’s old camera.
• Gunner is a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan.
