Charlene McKee

Classroom Teacher, Middlers (2024-2025)

Charlene grew up in the Democratic Republic of Congo and returned to the United States while she was in high school. She earned a B.S. in Technical Theatre from Lewis and Clark College in Oregon and then pursued several courses in Early Childhood Education in Colorado. She has many work experiences, from zookeeping and working at a veterinarian’s office in Hawaii to teaching for 10+ years in the Montessori tradition.

Charlene is passionate about nature.  She loves teaching children how to respect and care for our world and the animals living in it.  Charlene believes that children are capable, unique beings with infinite potential.  She wants to equip children to become independent and discover who they are.

Charlene enjoys learning new things, hiking, noticing small objects of wonder (such as frogs and bugs), woodworking, sewing, crafting, upcycling new things from old, journaling, and baking for friends.  She spends much time with her family—including her college-age son, three cats, and a dog!

“The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the earth.”
~Maria Montessori
